You can gain warmth and style points by wearing your dress underneath a long-sleeved, fitted knit top. We suggest going with a thinner top if your dress is made of light fabric, like silk or rayon. By doing so, you’ll prevent bulking up your ensemble or affecting your dress’s pattern. Put on a pair of eye-catching, animal-print boots and maintain the nostalgic vibe with a vintage baguette.

How To Style Summer Dresses In The Winter?
1. Pair Your Dress With Leggings Or Thermal Tights
Warming up your winter outfit while still being able to wear your favorite year-round dresses can be accomplished by pairing your dress with cozy leggings, fleece-lined tights, thermal tights, or even “temperature-controlled” tights.
The tights I’m wearing in the photo below are “temperature controlled tights” from Marks and Spencer’s in the UK. It sounds like magic, but these tights keep you warm in the winter and cool in the summer. They are a key component of my winter wardrobe and do wonders for keeping my legs warm underneath dresses.
2. Wear A Turtleneck Or An Extra Layer Under Your Dress
Dresses can be styled in the winter by wearing extra layers underneath, such as thermals, an extra t-shirt, camisole, or a turtleneck, to keep warm while maintaining a fashionable appearance.
Winter dresses can be easily transformed into winter-appropriate ensembles by wearing a turtleneck underneath.
The dress I’m styling in the photo above is a short, summery wrap dress, which I initially believed would be challenging to style for winter. The dress looks great, though, when accessorized with a black turtleneck, thick tights, black boots, and a monochromatic bag.
In order to match the polka dots on the dress, I could have also worn a white turtleneck with it.
3. Wear A Faux Fur Coat With Your Dress For Stylish Warmth
Style dresses in winter by pairing them with a long faux fur coat, for a timeless and elegant look that doesn’t compromise warmth.
With good reason—they always look chic while keeping you extremely warm—faux fur coats are a winter wardrobe staple for the best-dressed celebrities and influencers. To dress up your look and stay warm in the winter, throw on a faux fur coat over your dress.
In the above picture, I paired a floral dress with black detailing with a long black faux fur coat, as an easy way to transition a summer dress into a winter outfit. Add heeled boots for an extra touch of style.
4. Wear A Jumper Over Your Dresses In Winter
In the winter, adding a jumper over your dress is a great way to stay warm and fashionable. The best type of jumper to wear with a dress is a cropped, knitted jumper that cinches at the waist to maintain a flattering silhouette.
When changing your wardrobe from one season to the next, layering a jumper over your dress is a sweet and cozy way to stay warm. You can wear a strappy bodycon dress year-round by simply adding a cropped jumper to one that you might normally wear alone in the summer. Thus, you can wear your form-fitting dresses throughout the winter!
To conceal my shoulders and arms and add a sophisticated look, I wore a red cropped jumper with frilled cuffs, neckline, and hem underneath my strappy black bodycon dress. To tie the colors together, I added a red handbag to complete the look. This is an easy way to style a midi bodycon dress in the winter.
For a shorter bodycon dress, you could simply add some warm tights to complete the look.
5. Wear Tall Boots And Thick Socks Over Your Tights To Style Dresses In Winter
To keep your ankles and legs warm while styling dresses in the winter, wear thick socks underneath tall boots.
I added a fashionable twist to the outfit in the above photo by pairing woolen grey socks with gold-heeled boots. In order to keep you extra warm, I would advise wearing boots that are even taller than those shown above, worn over tights.
6. Add A Slip Or Extra Skirt Under Your Dress For Warmth
Dresses can be made warmer in the winter by simply adding a skirt underneath for a secret layer of warmth.
A quick way to warm up your legs without sacrificing the appearance of your outfit is to wear your dress with a hidden skirt. Check your closet to see if you have any skirts that would fit underneath your dresses, then try hiding them there.
I find skater skirts of a jersey material work particularly well for this (as pictured above), as the material is thin enough for it not to bulk out your dress, and the waistband is closely-fitted, so it isn’t noticeable under the fabric.
7. Pair Your Dress With An Indoor Jacket Or Blazer When At Work
When at the office in the winter, keep warm and fashionable by donning a blazer or indoor jacket.
We all know what it’s like to have a boss who is frugal with the heating! Many office workers complain about the chilly working environment. Wear a blazer or an indoor appropriate jacket over your work-wear dress to keep your upper body warm without compromising your professional style.
8. Choose A Sweater Dress Or A Dress With Sleeves In Winter
Choosing a sweater dress or a dress with long sleeves is an easy way to style dresses in the winter to keep your upper body warm. For the final touch, add a jacket and thick tights to your dress.
Your wardrobes should always have a few sleeveless dresses on hand for when the seasons change from fall to winter. When it’s winter, cover them with layers, and when it’s autumn, wear a lightweight jacket.
Since you can wear sleeved dresses alone or with an indoor-appropriate jacket, they are a great choice for office wear during the winter.
For a fashionable yet warm look, I’ve paired my sleeveless orange dress with a tweed jacket that can be worn alone or layered under a coat.
9. Add A Chunky Scarf To Style Dresses In Winter
When styling dresses for winter, add a thick scarf for an additional layer of warmth. A big scarf will cover your neck and shoulders, keeping you warm while still looking fashionable.
Scarves are a simple way to add warmth to an outfit while also elevating its style with a cozy and elegant touch.
For a stylish yet warm outfit, I wore a fleece jacket over a black bodycon dress and a chunky felt scarf. Add a pop of color to the ensemble by adding a vibrant handbag.
10. Wear A Long Coat And Long Style Dresses In Winter
Winter is the perfect time to stay warm without sacrificing style, so wear a long dress and a long coat. Coats and dresses should be paired together if they are both the same length and complementary colors.
When choosing a coat to pair with your long dress in winter, opt for a coat that is cut to the same length as your dress, to create a seamless look. The outfit will not appear as put-together if the layers are different lengths. When choosing a long dress, go for a lightweight fabric that will be simple to layer.
I put on a black bodycon dress, which I usually wear in the summer, and layered a long coat with a lapel collar over it. For extra warmth add a turtleneck underneath the dress to cover the shoulders and arms, whilst creating a chic style. Turtlenecks, in my opinion, always look stylish and can improve any outfit.
